Submissions
Texts should be sent to alternativas@osu.edu in Word document. See guidelines for other media below.
Length
Scholarly articles and essays should be approximately 5,000 to 7,000 words, including endnotes.
Reviews of single works should have a maximum of 800 words; reviews that compare 2 or more works may be up to 1,500 words.
Formatting
- MLA, Chicago Style or any other quotation system as far as it is consistent and coherent;
- Endnotes;
- Works Cited.
Abstract (required)
Please include a 150-word abstract of your article or essay for publication. Abstracts should summarize the key points of the article, placing them in a broader context for an international readership.
Bio (required)
Please include a 100-word bio.
Images
We welcome visual documentation to accompany all texts. Editors will determine how many images can be included with texts.
Formatting
- You can send images embedded in the Word document. However, photos, charts and tables should also be sent in a separate file in JPEG, TIFF, or PNG format, in 800x600px or a maximum size of 1MB;
- Number images in the order they should appear in the text;
- Fully caption and credit all images in a separate page (in a Word Document) including the name of the files with the corresponding information. Captions should include title, date, and venue name; names of performers, directors, authors; and photographer or photo credit. They may also include a brief description or comment.
Submitting images
By Dropbox: Upload your images and invite to share your file with alternativas@osu.edu
By email: Send no more than 5 organized images per e-mail.
- On the Subject: your last name;
- Number images in the order they should appear in the text;
- Include the corresponding caption and credit information for the attached images in the body of each email or as a Word document (organized correspondingly with order of images).
Video
Editors will determine the number of clips and total viewing time. alter/nativas will include no more than 4 per article or essay, with a maximum of 10 minutes total viewing time.
Formatting
- High quality Mpeg4 for videos is preferred. Ideally, H264/mpeg4 with low data rate for streaming;
- Youtube and Vimeo links;
- Fully caption and credit video in a separate page (in Word format) including the name of the files with the corresponding information. Captions should include title, date, and venue name; names of performers, directors, or authors; and videographer, as appropriate.
Submitting video
- Please send video clips over Dropbox, email or in a link to Youtube or Vimeo;
- The subject line of each email should include your last name.
Audio
Editors will determine the number of clips and total duration of audio. alter/nativas will include no more than 4 per article or essay, with each clip not exceeding 8 minutes.
Formatting
- MP3 format is preferred for audio files;
- Fully caption and credit audio in a separate Word document, including the name of the files with the corresponding information. Captions should include title, date, and venue name; names of performers, directors, or authors, as appropriate.
Submitting audio
- Please send audio clips via Dropbox or email;
- The subject line of each email should include your last name.
Permission to Publish
You must receive written permission from the authors/creators of any supplemental material (pictures, videos, etc.) before they can be published. Materials from websites require full citations, and may also require written permission. You will be asked to sign the journal’s Contribution Agreement.
